Medicare help in Florida, from a licensed advisor.

Home turf. Jason York is based in Boynton Beach and helps Floridians untangle the busiest, most competitive Medicare market in America, in person across Palm Beach County or by phone and Zoom statewide.

What makes Florida Medicare different

Florida is where Medicare competition runs hottest. Carriers fight for South Florida retirees with $0-premium Advantage plans stacked with dental allowances, grocery cards and gym memberships, while a deep Medigap market serves the travelers and snowbirds who refuse networks. More choice is genuinely good news, and genuinely more homework: plan quality varies widely between counties, and the flashiest benefit card is not always the plan that treats your cardiologist as in-network.

Jason lives and works here. Boynton Beach is home base, Palm Beach County is in-person territory, and the Miami to West Palm corridor is the market he compares every single week from Boca Raton to Delray Beach and beyond.

The three Florida decisions that matter most

  1. Network reality check. South Florida networks are large but not universal, and the specialist mix matters more than the hospital logo on the brochure. We verify your exact doctors before anything gets recommended.
  2. The snowbird question. If you summer up north, plan portability has to be designed in from day one, not discovered in an ER in July.
  3. Hurricane season. After a declared emergency, Medicare has historically opened special enrollment flexibility for affected areas. If a storm disrupts your enrollment window, call us before assuming you missed it.

Professor's note

In Palm Beach County, the difference between a well-matched plan and a mismatched one is rarely the premium; it is whether your doctors, your pharmacy and your winters were checked before enrollment. Twenty minutes of verification beats a year of regret.

Florida questions

I split the year between Florida and another state. What should I do about Medicare?

Snowbirds have two good answers. A Medicare Supplement travels with you to any doctor in the country that accepts Medicare, which is why it is the classic snowbird choice. Certain PPO Advantage plans also offer meaningful out-of-area flexibility. What ruins winters is an HMO tied to a service area you left in November; we make sure that is not you.

Is Medicare Advantage popular in Florida?

Extremely. Florida is one of the most competitive Advantage markets in the country, and South Florida counties typically see dozens of plans with rich extras competing for you. Competition is good for benefits, but it also means more fine print to compare, which is exactly the work we do for free.

Does Florida have special Medigap rules I should know?

Florida allows medical underwriting outside your protected windows, so the six-month Medigap Open Enrollment after Part B starts is precious here. Florida also standardizes the same lettered plans as most states, so comparing carriers on price and rate history is the whole game. Buy the window, not the brochure.

Where can I get free unbiased help in Florida besides an agent?

Florida runs SHINE (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Elders), the state SHIP program, with trained volunteer counselors. We regularly tell clients to verify anything we say with SHINE or 1-800-MEDICARE. Good advice survives a second opinion.
