The MedicarePROFESSOR
Add-on coverage

The coverage Medicare was never built to include.

Teeth, eyes, ears, hospital cash, serious-illness protection and final expense life. None of it is glamorous; all of it exists because Original Medicare deliberately leaves these gaps.

Dental, vision and hearing

Original Medicare does not pay for routine dental care, glasses or hearing aids, and those are exactly the costs that show up most often after 65. Stand-alone DVH plans bundle all three for one premium, with networks that include most local dentists and optometrists. If you chose a Medicare Supplement for its freedom, a DVH plan is the natural companion; if you are on an Advantage plan, we compare its built-in allowances against a stand-alone plan honestly.

Hospital indemnity: the Advantage sidekick

Most Advantage plans charge a copay for each of your first several hospital days. A hospital indemnity plan pays you cash per admission or per day, sized to offset those copays almost exactly. Pair the right indemnity plan with your Advantage plan and a surprise hospital week stops being a budget event.

Cancer, heart attack and stroke plans

Lump-sum policies that pay a tax-free cash benefit on first diagnosis. Clients use them to cover out-of-pocket maximums, out-of-network specialists, travel to treatment or simply the mortgage while recovering. Premiums are age-based and usually smaller than people guess; family history is usually the deciding factor.

Final expense life insurance

A modest permanent policy that guarantees your family a fast, tax-free benefit for funeral and final costs. No medical exam for most applicants, fixed premiums for life, and coverage that cannot be cancelled for age or health. Because The Medicare Professor is an Insurance Made Simple company, Jason handles this in the same appointment as your Medicare review when you want it done together. Details live on our Beyond Medicare page.

Short-term recovery care

Medicare covers skilled nursing narrowly (and only after a qualifying hospital stay, with a $217 daily coinsurance for days 21 to 100 in 2026). Short-term recovery care policies help pay for home care or facility stays that Medicare will not, protecting both your savings and the family members who would otherwise fill the gap themselves.

Professor's note

The right add-ons are the ones that plug holes in your plan design. We map your exposure first, then fill only the gaps that matter. Anyone selling add-ons before mapping the gaps has the order backwards.

Add-on coverage questions

Does Medicare cover dental, vision or hearing?

Original Medicare covers almost none of it: no routine cleanings, no dentures, no eye exams for glasses, no hearing aids. Some Medicare Advantage plans build in allowances, and stand-alone dental, vision and hearing plans fill the gap for everyone else, often for modest monthly premiums.

What is hospital indemnity insurance and why pair it with Advantage?

Hospital indemnity plans pay you a fixed cash amount for each hospital admission or day, regardless of what the hospital bills. Advantage plans typically charge daily hospital copays, so a well-matched indemnity plan can neutralize the exact out-of-pocket exposure your Advantage plan creates. It is one of the smartest pairings in the Medicare toolbox.

Are cancer and heart-and-stroke plans worth it?

They are lump-sum policies: a diagnosis triggers a cash payment you spend however you need, from deductibles to travel to household bills. Whether one is worth it depends on your family history, your other coverage and your savings. We will show you the real premiums and let you decide without drama.

What is final expense life insurance?

A small whole life policy, typically enough to cover funeral costs and final bills, designed so loved ones are not handed a bill in their hardest week. Premiums never increase, the benefit never decreases, and approval is simplified for most health histories. As an Insurance Made Simple client you can handle this alongside your Medicare in one conversation.
